House Works Series ~ Introduction

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Several months ago I stumbled wide-eyed into my local bookstore looking for some homemaking and/or organizing mojo and discovered House Works by Cynthia Townley Ewer (of OrganizedHome.com fame). I don't rightly remember the specifics of what I was looking for that day - quite possibly a magic wand - but whatever it was, I definitely found it in this book (Aussies, please note: down here the book is sold under the title "Cut The Clutter").

The book is a total gem. If you love OrganizedHome.com, you NEED this book. It's detailed, but set out in very clear sections and the tips and methods Cynthia uses are absolutely something you can tackle one bite at a time. Which is great if you're, uh, 'motivationally-challenged' like me!

In a fit of frustration at myself earlier this week, I had dug out and re-read House Works for what seemed like the umpteenth time. Since my house currently looks like a pack of frat boys lives here, I even got the crazy idea to write a series of blog posts using Cynthia's decluttering and organizing tactics on my own catastrophic homekeeping efforts. And posting pictures.

Clearly, I am insane. But in an effort to 'keep it real', I'm forging ahead nonetheless. If you'd like to follow along, I'd love to open up my home (and atrocious housekeeping skills!) for all and sundry to gawk at. And if you're feeling so inclined, join in!

(If you haven't currently got House Works then I highly recommend it. You can purchase it using the Amazon link above (I'm not an affiliate so I don't make any money if you click through) or ask at your local bookstore. Honestly, it really is that good and well worth the money. And of course, OrganizedHome.com is well known for great printables which can be used in your decluttering efforts).
